Hour 1

1

Good morning everyone! I hope you had a good nights sleep and are ready to tackle today’s SwapShop 12 Hour Art-a-thon.

The prompt for this hour is Patterns. Patterns can be found everywhere. They can be found on buildings, clothing, animals, plants, etc. For this prompt look around the space you’re in. Do you see some patterns? If so try to draw them. You could also create your own patterns.

Normally the SwapShop deals with ATCs or Artist Trading Cards which are mini works of art that measure 2.5 in. by 3.5 in. but for this challenge you can create your art on any size. You can even create something that isn’t even on paper and completely different. For example earlier in the week one participant created a doll. So create your art however you like.

As with any prompts we post here on the art-a-thon site it is just a suggestion. Something to get your creative juices flowing. If you don’t like the prompt or are having trouble with it simply create something else. The whole point is to have fun and create some art.

Can’t wait to see all your creations.

The SwapShop sisters, who are known for bringing art kits to patients in children’s hospitals are hosting their summer art challenge from Wednesday, August 10th thru Saturday August 13th. Though they mainly create Artist Trading Cards or ATCS which are small little art pieces, this year they are letting everyone create art in whatever size they like. Each day there will be a prompt to work on. Once you are done you can upload it to their Facebook page for a chance to win that day’s prize.

On the last day of the challenge, Saturday, August 13th I will be hosting a 12 Hour Art-a-thon starting at 8 A.M. Eastern and ending at 8 P.M. Eastern. There will be a prompt every hour and just like the SwapShop’s challenge you can create art in whatever size you’d like. All those who participate will be entered to win a prize at the end of the art-a-thon. For this art-a-thon there will be no signups. However, you will need to join and post your art in the art-a-thon’s Facebook group in order to be entered into the prize drawing.

At the end of the challenge if you’d like you can donate some or all of the art you created during the challenge and art-a-thon to the SwapShop’s upcoming auction. The auction will help them raise money to buy the supplies to create the art kits they take to children’s hospitals. You can also donate money through their YouCaring site or even donate supplies directly to them. When donating supplies please message them through Facebook for further information.

The End of the Year Art-a-thon has begun!

Hello!!

2016 is almost here! Feels like this year went by at lightening speed.

The art-a-thon has finally begun for me. Some of you have already been doing it for a few hours and others have yet to begin.

Hope you are all ready to complete those art projects that you have at various stages of completion! If you don’t have any incomplete art projects, you can create new art pieces, organize your art space so its ready for the new year, set your new art goals for 2016, flesh out your ideas for upcoming projects or anything that will help you prepare to make art in the new year.

Unlike other art-a-thons this will be the only post until I ring in the new year because there are no prompts. Most of my interactions will be in the Facebook group where I will check in from time to time. I will share my completed items in the group, instagram and twitter.

Good luck in completing your projects!
